Djanogly is great. Do you know why? Well, apart from the fact that the teachers are cool(!), there are so many people from so many places with so many things that they bring to the place, that it would be hard to find somewhere as interesting.
That's what makes it such a fabulous place to come to.
Enjoying that, and using the poems from the anthology as the springboard, we ran our second 'Different Cultures' festival on May 9th.
And what a day! Drumming, poetry, Bollywood dancing, Mehndi, two fab little dancers, Jamaican halal food and more drumming!
Here are some of the things you said about the day...
i would like to see this festival happening again and this time i want them to call people out to dance
-Wasil
I really enjoyed it, it was fun and exciting and the performers weren't afraid to try and get us involved.
I particularly enjoyed the girl who performed Half Caste and her own poems and I enjoyed hearing the drum player during break and lunch.
I think you should arrange for this to happen again in year 11 because, even though I will have already done my exams, It will be beneficial for us all :-)
-Alex O’Hagan
I enjoyed all of it, thank you very much for letting me take part!
Take care,
-Ewa Tobolewska.
Thankyou very much i really enjoyed it. i believe it was very beneficial and helped understand more about the poems from other cultures, mainly the Patois poems. My favourite part was the Bollywood dancer and the drumming. I really appreciated it.
Aqeelah :)
The festival was great!
I’d like to say a big 'Thank you' to the English department!
I think my personal highlight was the drumming and dancing at lunch. I still have my lovely mehndi pattern and there was a great sense of community and togetherness at the lunch time events.
I found the second Asian lady, who read 'presents from my Aunts in Pakistan' very helpful. Her interpretations of the poem were very helpful.
Thanks once again
Richa
I LOVED IT!!!

I enjoyed all of them. The one I enjoyed the most and the one that was most entertaining was Limbo. Also the thing that happened in the canteen. The one I found most helpful was the Presents from my aunts in Pakistan, also Hurrican hits England.

'I still have my lovely mehndi pattern!'
It was really inspiring. My favourite act was the Bengali women playing the guitar. I felt that I adapted to how the poem affected them and has truly helped me with my anthology, i really enjoyed it. Thank you.
-Kasim
I think the best one was the guy who did the limbo poem. He was fun to watch and he also let us in on some secrets about the poem which may help us in our exam... oh by the way, the woman who did the dance at lunch time was cool as well hahahahahahahahahahaha.
-Kyle
I really enjoyed the festival on Friday, I thought the Limbo man was one of the most interesting and entertaining performances. He really helped me see the different meanings of the poem and helped me to understand the poem more.
-Ebony
I fully enjoyed the festival, and it created awareness of other people's cultures. I loved the drumming people :) And the food!
It was great.
-Sabrina
Friday’s festival was FANTASTIC! I thoroughly enjoyed all events. The emotions that the poets expressed captured me and helped me see the poems in ways I’ve never seen them before. The performance at dinner was fab; I loved dancing in the courtyard.
Thank you for such a wonderful day that not only entertained me but educated me at the same time! Many Thanks
-Jerome
The festival was whack - not really - I enjoyed all of it, especially when the little kids were dancing.

I really enjoyed all the festival: I thought it was amazing, although I have to say my favourite parts were the bollywood dancer and the drumming. Maybe I'm biased because this is my culture, but I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for the opportunity to see it!
-Sabs
The festival was amazing. I found the dancing in the canteen the best.
-Victoria
The limbo guy was the best, and the drummers were great as well.
It was fun, you should do it every lunchtime!
-Jeremy
I thought that hearing the different people read out the poems was really interesting because they told us how the poems related to them specifically, but they also brought up many new ideas about the poems.
-Harpreet
i think the jamican girl Shawna was funny and her message was strong and the dancer and drummers were also good it was all good..................................
-Pauline
My most favourite part was the bhangra drums in the courtyard as we were all dancing and it was so much fun!!!!
